The varied landscapes on the Golden Vale drive (Distance: 112km) range from the level pasture lands to the north, from which the Golden Vale derives its name, to the foot of the highest inland mountain, Galtymore (3015 ft) by Griston bog, over the undulating picturesque countryside on the southern side of the drive through the medieval town of Kilmallock, and around Lough Gur which is famous for its many archaeological sites.
This signposted driving tour follows the following route: Limerick; Pallasgreen; Emly; Galbally; Ballylanders; Kilfinane; Kilmallock; Bruree; Bruff; Holycross; Lough Gur; Ballyneety.
There is an audio tour available on disc for the Golden Vale Drive, which is unique and offers much more than just a historical database of information. It concentrates on living cultures, traditions and stories as told by local people.
The focus of the audio tour is in bringing the heritage signage of the area to life, creating, a living land, an outdoors museum for the visitor, allowing the visitor to experience the heritage.
