Treks

Treks are a 4-6hr walks following a section of one of the Ways. Treks start at one trailhead and finish at another and require pick-up transport to be arranged. The Shannon Region has a number of delightful treks that traverse forestry, waterfalls, weirs and small villages.

Glenbarrow to Clonaslee

The Glenbarrow to Clonaslee trek is a 16km walk which you can start from either trailhead in Rosenallis or Clonaslee in Co. Laois. The walk takes you by a wooden hut, a waterfall and through forestry and onto a woodland trail.

Clonaslee to Cadamstown

The Clonaslee to Cadamstown trek is a 14km moderate walking route which you can start at either trailhead in Clonaslee or Cadamstown in Co. Laois. The trek takes you along forestry track and the 'young' Clodiagh River and past the Giant's Grave.

Cadamstown to Kinnitty

The Cadamstown to Kinnitty trek is a 10km walk which you can start from the trailhead in either Cadamstown or Kinnitty Village in Co. Offaly. The walk takes you by a weir, May Scully’s Cottage, the ruins of Glinsk Castle and the grounds of Kinnitty Castle.

The Kilcormac to Cadamstown trek is a 16km moderate walking route which you cab start from either Kilcormac or Cadamstown in Co. Offaly. The trek takes you along the banks of the Silver River and through the townlands of Luganiska and Ballynacarrig and past wonderful weirs and waterfalls..

Keeper Hill Trek

Keeper Hill is situated in the Slieve Felim mountain range in North Tipperary and is just 15km east of Limerick City. The Gaelic name for the hill is Sliabh Coimeálta – the mountain of guarding! At a height of 694m, Keeper Hill is the highest mountain in the Shannon area and the 117th highest in Ireland.
