Getting Started. You will need to leave pick-up transport at (your end point) Trailhead 3 Cadamstown, and then return to Trailhead 2 Clonaslee to start you trek.
Trailhead 3 is located in the carpark in Cadamstown village (on the R421 between Clonaslee and Kinnitty).
Driving back to Trailhead 2. Return to the village of Clonaslee and turn right at the bridge in the middle of the village – the trailhead is on your left after 200m. [Note: the trailhead is signposted from Clonaslee].
A-B. Starting from the entrance to Brittas Woods on the outskirts of Clonaslee village, enter the woodland and follow the forestry path with the Clodiagh River on your left. Continue for approximately 200m to a wooden footbridge on your left. Do not cross the footbridge. Instead continue straight on staying on the right of the rover. Notice that you have now joined the long-distance Slieve Bloom Way – the marker posts have yellow trekking man and arrows.
B-C. Continue to follow the forestry track along the bank of the Clodiagh for almost 2km before joining a green lane and, eventually, reaching a T-junction at a tarred road. You turn left following the Slieve Bloom Way.
C-D. You now follow a tarred roadway for about 800m before turning right onto a lesser laneway that gently ascends through the townland of Shraduff – with good views of Glenkeen opening up behind you. The laneway takes you past farmland and, eventually, to a farmyard gate – please close the gate after you pass through.
D-E. Continue to follow the Slieve Bloom Way arrows along the old laneway, through other gates to join again the banks of the ‘young’ Clodiagh River before entering forestry. Follow the yellow arrows along the forestry tracks before turning left onto a grassy trail to reach the Giant’s Grave.
E-F. Leaving the Giant’s Grave behind you, follow the grassy trail to reach forestry track and turn right. After approximately 800m you will exit from forestry onto a minor roadway and, after another kilometer, reach a T-junction. Turn left here onto what was, in previous times, the Coach Road.
F-G. Follow the Coach Road fro more than 1km to reach the village of Cadamstown. Take note – the Slieve Bloom Way turns left onto a Nature Trail just before the village. Ignore this turn – the trailhead (which is marked by a mapboard) is in the village carpark area just 100m on your left.
