Kilrush and Carrigaholt are the main access locations for those who wish to view the large group of bottlenose dolphins that reside in the Shannon Estuary. This school of breeding dolphins is unique to Ireland and is the most accessible group of dolphins in Europe.

Starting at the Shannon Dolphin Information Board in the towns Market Square, and by following the Trail Marker Posts, the Kilrush Dolphin Trail guides the visitor on an enthralling tour of discovery.
Operate out of the fishing port of Carrigaholt, 10 km from Kilkee on the Loop Head Peninsula. There are a number of sailings daily from Mid-March to September (weather permitting). Bookings are advisable and you should check times.
We offer daily dolphin watch tours from Kilrush Creek marina on board our sightseeing ferry mv 'Dolphin Discovery' to observe these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. Over 100 dolphins have been identified using the estuary at different times and calves are born each year between May and August. A trip not to be missed!
